This transition brings together two respected nonprofits with aligned missions and a shared commitment to helping families move from crisis to stability.

Building Homes and Stability

Since its founding in 2016, Fresh Start Furnishings has focused on addressing furniture poverty in Harford County. The organization provides essential household items at no cost to individuals an families transitioning from homelessness, domestic violence, financial hardship, and other life disruptions. Over the years, Fresh Start has furnished more than 2,050 homes, serving nearly 6,000 individuals. By transforming empty spaces into comfortable, functional homes, the organization has played a critical role in helping families regain dignity and stability.

Inner County Outreach brings more than 40 years of experience serving Harford County residents. ICO offers a broad range of services, including food and clothing assistance, mental health services, and youth and family support programs. Known for its comprehensive and compassionate approach, ICO supports families with both immediate needs and long term pathways toward stability.

A Stronger, More Coordinated Impact

The merger allows Fresh Start’s highly engaged volunteer base and specialized furniture program to integrate into ICO’s established infrastructure and wraparound services. Families who receive furniture assistance will now have even greater access to additional support such as counseling, food assistance, and family services when needed.

By combining operational systems, leadership, and community partnerships, the newly unified organization is positioned to serve more families efficiently while ensuring long term sustainability.

How the Community Can Support the Mission

Community involvement remains essential to the success of Fresh Start Furnishings at ICO.

Volunteer
Volunteers are the heart of the furniture program. Opportunities include sorting and preparing donated items, assisting in the showroom, helping with furniture pickups and deliveries, and supporting special projects. Whether volunteering individually, with a family, or as part of a corporate team, time given directly impacts local families rebuilding their homes.

Donate Items
Gently used furniture and household goods are always needed. Beds, dressers, sofas, dining tables, kitchenware, and basic home essentials help fill empty rooms for families starting over. Item donations reduce waste while providing tangible hope and comfort to neighbors in need.

Give Financially
Financial contributions help cover transportation, storage, program operations, and growth. Monetary gifts ensure that families can be served quickly and consistently. Recurring monthly donations provide dependable support that strengthens long term impact.
