For nearly 50 years, SARC, the Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center, has been a lifeline for victims, potential victims, and survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, and stalking in Harford County. Founded in 1978, SARC works within the community to provide safe haven, advocacy, resources, and hope while serving as a catalyst for the eradication and prevention of violence.
Every service SARC provides is offered free of charge in a confidential environment built on trust, respect, and mutual accountability. Through community support, the organization is able to continue helping individuals and families who are experiencing abuse and seeking safety.
According to the State of Maryland, more than 200,000 incidents of domestic abuse occur each year. SARC is able to support an average of 2,000 clients annually, providing critical services to people in Harford County who are experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, or stalking.
While those numbers are significant, they represent real people in our community who need safety, support, and resources.
SARC operates a confidential 40 bed emergency Safehouse for survivors of domestic violence and their children who are seeking immediate protection and stability.
Residents may stay for up to three months while receiving protection, stability, case management, life skills education, coaching, and supportive services as they work toward long term safety and independence. The Safehouse is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
SARC also offers an onsite pet kennel through its Red Rover Pet Home program, allowing survivors to bring their pets with them while seeking safety.

SARC also maintains a Welcome Home Program that helps families moving from emergency shelter into independent housing by providing essential household items.
Please note that SARC does not accept clothing donations due to limited storage. Instead, clothing donations are referred to Tabitha's House.
