Local nonprofits and community groups looking to strengthen their grant writing skills will have an opportunity to do just that at the upcoming Small Grants Writing Workshop hosted at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Abingdon.
The workshop will take place on Saturday, April 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church’s parish house, located at 1 St. Mary’s Church Road, Abingdon. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch; drinks, chips, and dessert will be provided.
Designed for beginners and those seeking more confidence, the session will focus on applying for small local grants ranging from $200 to $5,000. Attendees will learn how to identify the right funders, tell their organization’s story effectively, and tailor language to specific audiences. The interactive format includes whole-group discussions, small group exercises, and hands-on practice crafting sections of a grant request.
The workshop will be led by Pat Weaver, who brings more than a decade of experience writing successful grants for numerous Harford County nonprofits, including The Homecoming Project, Fresh Start Furnishings, and the Harford Family Assistance Fund. Her practical, local expertise offers participants real-world insight into what area funders are looking for—and how small grants can make a meaningful difference.
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, a longstanding congregation in Abingdon, regularly opens its doors to community-focused events and initiatives that support service, outreach, and local collaboration.
