The Southern County Task Force Is Helping Shape the Future of Southern Harford County

Strong communities are built through collaboration, and that is the goal of the Southern County Task Force.

Created in February 2023, the Southern County Task Force brings together Harford County government departments, community organizations, businesses, and residents to address challenges, improve quality of life, and share information about projects and resources throughout southern Harford County. The Task Force also publishes a monthly newsletter to keep residents informed about ongoing initiatives and community updates.

Working Together Across Southern Harford County

The Southern County Task Force focuses on improving communities through collaboration across many areas, including public safety, housing, parks and recreation, transportation, economic development, code enforcement, and community services.

By coordinating efforts across multiple agencies and organizations, the Task Force helps ensure that projects and resources are working together to benefit residents.

Highlights of Recent Accomplishments

Since its creation, the Southern County Task Force has reported progress in a variety of areas throughout southern Harford County.

Some highlights include:

  • Opening the Belcamp Fire Station and relocating an ambulance to improve emergency medical response times.
  • Installing security cameras in Harford Square and supporting security improvements at Joppatowne High School.
  • Assisting with the construction of 60 senior rental units at Merion Village Apartments.
  • Helping 33 first time homebuyers with down payment assistance.
  • Supporting the rehabilitation of nine homes through Habitat for Humanity.
  • Assisting 25 nonprofit organizations through grant writing workshops.
  • Providing health education, nutrition programs, and health screenings for more than 400 seniors through the Office on Aging.
  • Planting 74 trees throughout the Southern County Task Force area.
  • Completing improvements to the Brookside Basketball Court and supporting funding for improvements at the Harford Square Clubhouse and Ledgewood Skate Park.
  • Opening Mildred Kelly Park and completing repairs to several piers at Mariner Point Park.
  • Supporting 22 community cleanup events that collected 56 dumpster loads of material.
  • Welcoming 70 new businesses within the corridor while providing assistance to hundreds of existing businesses.
  • Increasing Harford Transit ridership and expanding technology that provides riders with improved real time transit information.

These accomplishments represent only a portion of the projects completed through partnerships between county departments, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and community members.
